Day 1Arrival Mexico City

Welcome to Mexico! A wonderful, varied Mexico tour of 3 weeks is now ahead of you!

When you arrive at Mexico City Airport, you go directly to your hotel at the airport. There you can first recover from the long journey.

Day 2Mexico City Tour

After an ample breakfast, your Mexico tour can begin! You pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel in the city center.

From there we recommend that you take a tour of the city on your own, either on foot or with one of the many hop-on/hop-off buses.

Mexico City is unique in the world between superlatives and contrasts. The metropolis is one of the ten largest cities in the world.. Visit the gigantic Zócalo with the baroque Metropolitan Cathedral , the Templo Mayor and thePalacio Nacional with impressive murals by Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo’s husband.

At the end of your tour, we recommend a visit to the fascinatingAnthropological Museum,which presents the history of Mexico in a very interesting and interactive way.

Day 3Pyramids of Teotihuacan

We recommend that you set off early this morning to the impressive pyramids of Teotihuacán.. This famous ruin site was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and is one of the most important prehistoric ruined cities in America.. The temple city was built in the 6th century BC. and developed into the cultural and economic center of Central America with up to 200,000 inhabitants.

Alternatively, this excursion can also be carried out as a guided, German-speaking day tour or as a balloon ride over Teotihuacán.

Day 4Mexico City - Puebla

After breakfast you will drive with your rental car to the city ofPuebla , about 2.5 hours away.. Puebla is known for a rich culinary history, colonial architecture and pottery crafts.

Enjoy your free afternoon and discoverMexico’s fourth largest city on your own. Visit the main attractions such as the cathedral and the Church of Santo Domingo.

Day 5Puebla - Oaxaca

Today after breakfast you will travel further to Oaxaca (approx. 5 hours). Oaxaca is a beautiful, authentic city in the state with the same name and in the heart of Mexico.

After your arrival, we recommend that you stretch your legs on a city tour on your own. Visit the Zócalo, the Cathedral, the Amparo Museum, the Chapel of the Rosario, the Palafoxiana Library and the colorful El Parián craft market.. Try the regional delicacies for which Oaxaca is world-famous.

Day 6Tule, Hierve el Agua & Teotitlán

Leave as early as possible today. It’s reaaly worth getting up early because you’ll be able to see the famous petrified waterfalls”ofHierve el Agua (English: “boiling water”) before all the other visitors. The bubbling springs are actually reminding of hot water, but in reality they are only a pleasant25 degrees warm.

On the way back you will make a stop in the authentic weaving village ofTeotitlán de Valle. There you will learn about the traditional weaving techniqueand, if you wish, you can buy a handmade souvenir for your loved ones at home.

Your final stop is the Tree of Tule. With a trunk diameter of 14,05 m the largest tree in the world stands here.. You shouldn’t miss this before you head back to your hotel in Oaxaca after an eventful day.

Day 7Monte Alban

Drive to Monte Alban in your rental car today.. Monte Alban was the capital of the Zapotecs.. Today’s UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the oldest written characters in all of Central America and is an extraordinary testimony to past cultures. Immerse yourself in past cultures in Monte Alban and visit the impressive ruins at dizzy heights.

Day 8Domestic flight Oaxaca - Cancún

Today you have enough time to enjoy your breakfast and take a little stroll through Oaxaca. At the given time you drive to Oaxaca airport,drop off your rental car and take theflight to Cancún.. Your next adventure is already waiting for you there.

When you arrive at Cancún airport, an airport shuttle will take you to your hotel directly at the airport.

Day 9Cancún - Tulum

After breakfast, you pick up your rental car at Cancun airport and drive comfortably to the beautiful seaside resort ofTulum.. Tulum is located directly on the Caribbean coast and is an absolute dream destination. The afternoon is free for you to relax on the beach or explore the area.

Day 10Tulum Bike Tour

Today’s half-day bike tour through Tulum is the perfect combination of being active, learning about the culture, having some fun at the beach and enjoying delicious street food!

The tour starts early in the morning so that you can visit the ruins of Tulum with your guide before the big tourist crowds. Thanks to its beauty and its fantastic locationright by the sea, the Tulum temple complex is one of the most photographed cultural sites in the world.

Afterwards, enjoy a deliciousbreakfast at Tulum’s best street food carts.. Now you are refreshed and ready to explore Tulum and its surroundings by bike. Afterwards you will stop at the Melipona Maya Bee Foundation,where you will find out everything you need to know about Mexican bees and localhoney production. After your bike tour, you have the opportunity to refresh yourself in one of the over 4,000 cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula. Jump in, and enjoy the crystal clear water of these freshwater caves.

Day 11Tulum - Bacalar

Today the second half of your 3 week Mexico tour begins and there are even more exciting adventures waiting for you.

Today, enjoy a delicious breakfast and the view of the Caribbean Sea, before continuing to the beautifullagoon of Bacalar. . Thanks to its spectacular coloring with various shades of blue, it is also called the lagoon of 7 colors . Enjoy the day on and in the lagoon, swim, rent a kayak or a SUP.

Day 12Bacalar - Xpujil

Take your time to have a cosy breakfast and then drive into the deep Mayan jungle to Xpujil.. In Xpujil the clocks tick a little slower and today you will spend your first night in the jungle with pleasant jungle sounds.

Day 13Calakmul

Today you will be woken up by the beautiful sounds of the jungle and will ignite your spirit of discovery. Because today we go to the still largely unexplored ruins of Calakmul.. Calakmul was one of the most important centers of Mayan power and is one of the largest Mayan cities ever discovered, along with Tikal and El Mirador. Take your time to climb the temples and enjoy breathtaking views over the jungle. Be careful, a monkey may hop by here and there.

After this adventure, you drive back to your hotel and recover from your eventful day.

Day 14Xpujil - Campeche

Let the sounds of the jungle wake you up again today and then make your way to the picturesque town of Campeche.. The port city is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.. At the time of the Conquista , Campeche wasone of the most important ports for the Spanish crown.. From there, raw materials such as wood, salt and sisal were shipped to Europe. As its wealth increased, the city fell victim to pirate attacks more and more frequently.. To this day, there are numerous stories and anecdotesn about the colorful pirate town.

Day 15Campeche - Uxmal

Today you will once again dive deep into the world of the Maya . After your breakfast we head to Uxmal.. If you feel like it, you can take a short break in Kabah on the way. Uxmal was once an important Mayan city and is located in the historic Puuc region.. Thanks to the very good condition and some restorations, get a particularly good insight into the early life of the Maya in Mexico in Uxmal. The most important temples are the Governor’s Palaceand the Pyramid of the Sorcerer. .

Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the Uxmal Chocolate Museum (Uxmal Choco-Story). Chocolate was a special commodity for the Maya. It was used as a means of payment at timesand is still considered the drink of the godstoday.

Day 16Uxmal - Mérida

Today you continue to Mérida – the capital of the state of Yucatán.. Mérida has remained one of the safest cities in Mexico and even Latin America for years.

Many of the beautiful buildings in the center of Mérida are white.. This is why Mérida is also called the white city and is considered thegateway to the Mayan world (Puerta al Mundo Maya).

Use today’s free dayto explore the city on your own. Life takes place mainly in and around the Plaza de la Independencia . From there you can easily reach the cathedral, the former palace Casa de Montejo and the Palacio Municipal. .

Day 17Celestún

After so much culture and history, today it is time to discover the still untouched nature of Mexico . Head out early this morning to observe the pink flamingos of Celestún.

Hundreds to thousands of flamingo colonies (depending on the season) live in the Celestún Biosphere Reserve.. They get their natural pink color thanks to the specific species of crabs and mussels that live in these shallow waters and serve as a food source for flamingos.

Afterwards, we recommend enjoying delicious, fresh seafood in one of the numerous restaurants and relaxing for a while on Celestún beach . Then head back to Mérida.

Day 18Mérida - Chichén Itzá

Of course, a visit to the wonder of the world Chichén Itzá should not be missed on an extensive 3-week tour of Mexico.

We recommend that you check into your hotel in Chichén Itzá around midday. The Hacienda is a wonderful retreatto relax from your previous trip, for example by the pool or in the spacious garden. If you are interested, the staff will be happy to give you an insight into the history of the hacienda, where archaeologists used to live and work. Enjoy delicious Yucatecan food from the hotel’s hectare-sized organic garden and a superb cocktail or two.

Day 19Chichén Itzá - Valladolid

Take advantage of the excellent location of your hotel and enter the temple complex of Chichén Itzá through the hotel’s private entrance before all other tourists.. It’s best to visit Chichén Itzá at sunrise for exclusive pictures and a unique, mystical atmosphere before the crowd arrives.

Chichén Itzá is the most important temple complex in Mexico, after Teotihuacán. The ancient city was the most important capital of the Mayas during the Classic Period (600 – 750 AD).. The impressive ruins have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCOand are one of the 7 New wonders of the world.

Take enough time to also visit the Planetarium and the sacred cenote. Then you drive comfortably to the nearby colonial town of Valladolid.. Explore the beautiful Zócalo and colorful alleys on foot.

Day 20Rio Lagartos & Pink Lake "Las Coloradas

Today you drive to the nature reserve of Rio Lagartos. There the journey continues by Boat (not included) through the still largely untouched nature.

In addition to a very diverse range of wildlife such as eagles, herons, crocodiles etc., the nature reserve is home to pink flamingos all year round. They gather there in sometimes very large colonies and breed.

Then you drive to the pink lake “Las Coloradas, which looks most beautiful at lunchtime when the sun is strong. This Salt Lake is one of the largest salt factories in Mexicoand gets its pinkish color due to various sediments, minerals, high salt content and some special types of cancer.

Before you arrive back at your hotel in Valladolid, you will have the opportunity to visit theEk Balam archaeological site.
