When most people think of snorkeling in Mexico, the beach probably comes to mind. But there is a unique geological shape on the Yucatán Peninsula that makes for an unforgettable snorkeling experience: the cenote. Cenotes are natural sinkholes that expose the underlying groundwater and were once considered scared by the ancient Maya as they represented the gateway to the underworld.
Today you will be picked up from your hotel and snorkel in one of the more than 4,000 cenotes on the Yucatán Peninsula. Navigate through the breathtaking caves and see how beautifully the incoming light refracts. Discover the history of the stalactites and stalagmites as you explore the ancient rock formations up close. Afterwards, snorkel through an incredible lagoon full of colorful aquatic life. In this hidden gem of the Caribbean coast, you snorkel past great rock reefs and see an imaginable variety of color-filled, tropical fish, turtles, rays, and much more.
You will then be driven back to your hotel.
No problem, the snorkel guide will show you how to use the equipment. You will receive a briefing and safety equipment.
You don’t have to be a professional, but you need to be able to swim safely and have a certain level of fitness.
We do not recommend using sunscreen because it contains chemicals that can damage the wildlife. If you need sunscreen please purchase only sunscreen labeled “biodegradable” and apply at least 20 minutes before entering the water.
Yes, this snorkeling tour is a unique experience for children! However, the children must be 8 years or older and be able to swim.
